Emily Smith is a Naarm / Melbourne based designer. Her collection, Embedded Time Past, combines shibori techniques and lingerie silhouettes and experiments with shape and layering. The resulting garments are intimate, yet luxurious, with fabrics which drape and highlight the forms of the body. An artisanal approach creates luxury garments which highlight the hand of the maker with impressions and marks of the body. Using textiles which are pre-owned, reclaimed and sourced in ways that give them a chance at a new life. Her vision is of garments which create meaningful connection with their wearer via a physical imprint to be left on the fabric. Creating garments which are archives of a memory or experience. She uses jewelry as a carrier of story and embeds it within the cloth via wrapping. The cloth is an archive of experience; an intimate moment.
